On Hurricane Katrina
The vast destruction of lives and
properties caused by Hurricane Katrina is a horrible human tragedy
of unbelievable proportions. The pain and suffering of thousands of
people who have lost everything is deeply moving. The scenes and
stories of destruction and the continuing problems of basic human
need for food, water, shelter and medical attention moves our hearts
and minds to respond in whatever way we can help the thousands of
refugees who are streaming into our Archdiocese.
I know that you will be generous
with your time in relief work and generous to the collection on
Labor Day weekend which will be directed to the needs of the
hurricane victims.
Above all, we welcome our brothers
and sisters who are suffering horribly and pledge our solidarity and prayers that God will inspire all people of good will to bring comfort and relief immediately
to those in need.
Archbishop Joseph A. Fiorenza
