Super Bowl of Caring National Service Project is an effort to touch lives and teach youth to fight hunger and poverty in their local communities. The 2005 effort was led by over 11,000 organizations and generated $4 million for charities across the country and world. This is one of the easiest projects to facilitate to serve the needs of the disadvantaged in our community.  Simply invite parish members to contribute to the needy as they leave mass on NFL Super Bowl Sunday.  Youth holding pots should stand at the exits to receive the donations.  All food and/or money is given to the agency/charity selected by the youth.

Steps to Participate in the Souper Bowl of Caring

Invite parish members to contribute to he needy as they leave Mass on Sunday February 5, 2006.  Youth holding pots should stand at the exits to receive the donations.  When the offering is complete, send or hand deliver all proceeds directly to a charity you and your youth ministry program have selected.  Organizers ask only that congregations report their results on game day, so that national total’s can be determined.

1.      Announce that your parish will be part of the Souper Bowl of Caring.  Ask each parishioner to give one dollar as they leave mass on February 5st.

2.      Collect the donations.  Young people holding large soup pots should stand at exits to receive the donations.

3.      Report on game day.  Be sure to report your groups total dollars either via www.souperbowl.org or by calling 1-800-358-SOUP (7687) from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. EST.  Your prompt reporting will aid in determining accurate totals that can then be announced to the medial.  You can also report your Service Blitz totals at this time.

4.      Deliver or mail your group’s donation directly to the soup kitchen, food bank or other helping charity of your choice or that of your group.

5.      Watch for totals!  Once you’ve reported, watch www.souperbowl.org or the media for totals.

Pre-Bowl Service Blitz Continues!

Youth participating in Souper Bowl of Caring have an extraordinary opportunity to unite Saturday, February 4, 2006 to serve at the charity of their groups choice.  How awesome it will be as thousands serve Christ simultaneously at soup kitchens, food banks and other charities all across the country.

1.                  Decide to join the Service Blitz team.  Put the date on your calendar, Saturday February 4, 2006.  If that date doesn’t fit your church calendar, choose another day to serve.

2.                  Contact the local charity of your choice.  Make arrangements to work there on Saturday February 4, 2006.  Let them know it is part of an international initiative.  Arrange times and find out exactly what help the charity needs. Ask how many people they can use for help at one time.

3.                  Blitz’em January with a flurry of God’s love in action!  Serve the charity and be sure to take pictures. Contact your local media.

4.                  Report via www.souperbowl.org, by FAX at 803-419-7244 or by phone 1-800-358-SOUP (7687) on February 5st.  Service Blitz totals can be reported at the same time Souper Bowl Offerings totals are reported.

Additional posters and promotion materials may be obtained at www.souperbowl.org.  We look forward to a very successful first year of participation.
